Who are we?

Stichting Farmacie Mondiaal is a foundation which is involved in structural aid in developing countries, especially focused on pharmacy. We support projects on micro level mainly in African countries. Further on this page you can find more information about the kind of projects we support.
You can also read more about it in our regulations (not in English): regulations.

Mission Statement
Farmacie Mondiaal initiates, supports and facilitates, in close cooperation with the local population and other Dutch and International organisations, (the start of) rational, basic, easily accessible pharmaceutical care.

Farmacie Mondiaal focuses its attention mainly on countries in which this pharmaceutical infrastructure is missing because of the socio-economical situation of the country, natural disasters or political instability.

Farmacie Mondiaal contributes in this way to preventive and curative care in these countries as well as to rational use of medicine which is used to promote health.

Farmacie Mondiaal works on a professional basis by humanitarian involvement in political, cultural, religious and social situations of non-commitment.

Farmacie Mondiaal coordinates local projects, if necessary in cooperation with other local parties and brings the problems to the attention of relevant target groups in The Netherlands with the use of modern means of communication. It also recruits funds to achieve its objectives.

Development cooperation
For Farmacie Mondiaal, development cooperation exists of numerous activities. On a micro level we can supply knowledge in the fields of education, distribution and logistics. We can send experts and/or deliver materials and machinery. To send medicines is not a primary task for us. In exceptional cases we can sometimes offer aid on a small scale.

With the projects we participate in we focus in particular on improvement of:

- accommodation
- working methods in pharmacies and/or distribution posts
- cooperation with prescribing doctors and other health care workers
- prescription management and use of medicines
- prevention of infectious diseases
- hygiene
- pharmacotherapeutical knowledge
- access to pharmaceutical care

Many improvements come about by educating local co-workers in the pharmaceutical health care. Instructing the local population to improve awareness for their own responsibility with respect to health, is also essential for us.
Independency of the population is our objective, based on lasting structures.

It is clear that these ambitions can only be realised in cooperation with other disciplines: medical and nursing, but also governing.
The support of local government and cooperation with - existing and future - local and regional Non Governmental Organisations (NGO's) is, therefore, indispensable.
